Rain

Rain
This morning I awoke to a soft, gentle rain and a cool breeze. The windows are open and the fresh morning air is flowing through the house. So late in June, this is a treat. By this time, we are usually resigned to closing our windows until the cool weather of fall arrives.

The sound of this rain is soothing, peaceful. The trees sing their songs as the breeze moves through them. My favorite song comes from a cottonwood in our neighbors yard. This morning he sings quietly.

Little do the weeds know that I am plotting against them. Tomorrow will be the perfect day to pull them. The ground will give them up willingly.

Hebrews 6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

The earth is not bringing forth any herbs for me from my yard. I have not been caring and nurturing my garden. I am thankful that this is not what was truly being addressed by this verse.

Hebrews 6:10-12 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. (11) And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: (12) That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I’ve been weary of laboring lately. God is encouraging me to keep going. Everytime I think I need to stop serving, that it is just too much, God encourages me to continue on. He is refreshing me with a spiritual rain through His word. I will continue to grow. I am thankful that God is The Gardener.

  1. Amanda, I came briefly yesterday and read without leaving a comment. I was on 1Kings chapter 19 earlier and you came to mind, particularly with verses 5-8. Hope that encourages you.
The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” (v.7)
    God is awesome, isn’t He?

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. This whole chapter is so good. I am now waiting for that still small voice.
